Electronic Accessories That Look Like Candy

You may recall from the Volkswagen entry that I mentioned that things that look like candy are satisfying. There’s not much to not be satisfied by with candy-like qualities. Well, electronic accessories are no different. In this ‘iPod generation’ that we’re being stampeded by, it’s hard to find somebody who doesn’t have headphones jammed in their ears, a Sidekick, an iPhone, a Blackberry, a Razr, a Zune, an iPod, one of those annoying chirp phone things, a GPS, a PSP, DS, or any other of the seemingly endless varieties of hand-held electronic entertainment.
Marketers have been very clever because they’ve tapped into everyone’s subconscious satisfaction and realized that candy + electronics = life. Electronics keep you connected to the world: you can narrate your jaunt down the street with your favorite Wilco song or call your friend Tina to tell her that you can’t believe Josh was such a jerk at the dance last Friday; you can schedule your back to backs with those stuffy executives and keep yourself from getting lost in the car on the way to said meetings. Candy gives you the sugary high to have the stamina to deal with all of these things. Making electronics look like candy then makes someone’s wish come true that they didn’t even realize they had.
Think about it next time you fondle an iPod Touch at your local Apple store. You’re not just salivating because it’s fun to play with and feels smooth in your hand. You’re also subtly reminded of a candy shop as you iterate through its jelly-like buttons to choose your next appetizing morsel. The chocolate phone? The marketers came right out and put it in your face - even going so far as to dip the phones in chocolate on the commercial. Delicious. If that doesn’t make it obvious that Satisfytes are taking over the electronic world I don’t know what does.
Or maybe they’re just tapping into America’s obesity epidemic and are realizing if they link sugary foods with expensive electronics that people will be more likely to buy because they can identify with food. I like to think it’s because they want to spread some satisfaction, though. Call me an optimist.
What’s your favorite electronic gadget? Does it remind you of a particular food or candy?

I wish I had more candy-themed electronics.
Haha yeah, ironically of all of the things on that list I poured out, I only have the Nintendo DS.
My cell phone doesn’t really resemble candy. It’s kind of beat up, but for some reason I don’t have the heart to trade it in for a new one.
